Rails Steakhouse is a full-service American steakhouse and cocktail bar located in Towaco, NJ. The restaurant is known for its classic steakhouse fare with some standout seafood options, making it a solid choice for folks who appreciate well-executed premium meat cuts alongside fresh, thoughtfully prepared dishes like Tuna Tartare and Spanish Octopus Alla Plancha.

The dining experience here is shaped by both the food and the environment. Rather than one large open dining room, Rails is uniquely laid out with around 56 separate, named dining rooms—each offering a somewhat intimate setting. This segmented setup means it can feel more private and cozy, even when the restaurant is busy, though some rooms can be louder depending on group sizes nearby. Weekends and special occasions tend to bring a livelier energy, while weekday dinners feel more relaxed.

Steak is the main draw, with highlights like the Cowboy Steak Special and Braised Short Ribs drawing regular praise for being perfectly cooked and flavorful. There’s also a hearty seafood tower and thoughtfully prepared sides such as Smoked Gouda and Bacon Mac & Cheese and Parmesan Truffle Fries that complement the main dishes well. Cocktails come recommended too, both for their variety and quality, serving as a good start or finish to the meal.

Service at Rails stands out for being attentive but not overbearing. Many locals mention the knowledgeable, patient waitstaff and smooth flow from reservation to seating, which means you won’t usually be stuck waiting long after arriving. It’s a place where a special celebration, like a birthday or New Year’s Eve dinner, feels well taken care of thanks to efficient staff and attention to detail.

Rails Steakhouse works best as a destination for meat lovers and those celebrating an occasion where the food and atmosphere deserve extra attention. The "rooms" layout makes it a good option for groups wanting some distinction without feeling like you're in a typical open dining hall. The restaurant is comfortable for both couples on a date and families or groups looking for a solid night out.

For those coming from outside the immediate area, a drive to Towaco is often mentioned as worthwhile for a consistent and satisfying steakhouse experience with the added bonus of creative cocktails and a variety of dessert options like the 10 Layer Chocolate Cake and classic Key Lime Pie.

Delicious everything! The steak was A1! The service we received from Suzzette was top tier. She was vey attentive, very knowledgeable, very patient. The appetizers were great, great drinks, and all around great experience. I also loved how easy it was to set up a reservation and how quickly they sit you. Most restaurants you make a reservation and they still make you wait. Not here. Will definitely go back.

I wanted to take my Fiancé to this place since the day I saw it ( I don’t quite remember if social or somewhere else) because he loves meat & I wanted to go for his birthday. The only thing that had me in doubt was the drive because we live upstate NY. But the drive was worth it MILLIONS!!! The restaurant has its own magic because it has around 5-6 different “rooms” which all have their own name. The specifics rooms that caught my attention were the Cave & Speak easy. So, for my good luck the room speak easy was only open on weekends and his birthday was on a Wednesday & The Cave had an event going on. But the part that I loved was that when I called a sweet lady ( I don’t remember her name - but she is the one on the video below) told me they will happily give me a tour of the restaurant so we can see all the rooms. The day of the reservation I arrived 1hr earlier so we can have the tour & for my blessing the lady that I spoke on the phone was the same person who gave me the tour. She is the sweetest and explain everything to us so detailed. After our tour we sat on the bar for a little while because we still had time for our reservation & we wanted to enjoy the restaurant. The staff is extremely friendly & have an amazing customer service which I loveeeed. After we stat on our table - I picked the room called the Library for our dinner. The manager ( a guy) came just to make sure if we had the tour. Then we had attending our table Manuela & Patricio. They were so sweet, attentive & we really had the best experience. We also had Isamar she was a sweet young lady. The food , Ugh!! All was to die for. The Appetizers were the bomb. I personally loved the wagyu sliders; but we also had oysters. As my main course I had the skirt meat & mushroom & my Fiance had lamb chop with mash potato & we also got for the both of us the lobster Mac cheese. As a dessert we had their special butter cake (delicious) & also gelato with chocolate syrup. I could say fall in love with this restaurant. Starting from the customer service , food, drinks , the beautiful scenarios (rooms) & finishing with the great ambience. I would definitely come back soon & I will recommend this restaurant to anybody. Even if they live far like me, the drive it’s definitely worth it.

I had an incredible experience at Rails Steakhouse! The staff was welcoming and genuinely friendly, which made the night even better. The Wagyu burger and summer salad were absolutely to die for—so flavorful and perfectly prepared. The porterhouse was cooked to perfection and hands down solid. Between the amazing food and the great atmosphere, Rails is definitely a place I’ll be coming back to!

Had an awesome New Year’s Eve dinner tonight. Our steak was cooked to perfection! For a very busy night, they had tons of staff; our waitress, someone who cleared the table, one brings food another brings dessert. Dinner always runs so smoothly at Rails . Our waitress Anna Maria was exceptional. She checked on us frequently and took good care of us. It was pleasure to have her serve us! Happy New Year!

We arrived early Sunday afternoon for a 4:30 reservation... Not very busy, the two of us were seated right next to two large groups who were very loud and celebratory. I felt we could have been seated in another area that was less noisy. Food was very good. Cocktails for excellent.

This was our second time at Rails. We love it. We were here for my husband’s birthday. Our waiter was Nick, he was very pleasant and knowledgeable. The food is amazing as always. We traveled over two hours for dinner, that’s how much we liked it.

I came in on a late Sunday afternoon and ate at the bar. Bar service was great and so were the suggestions. I had the wedge salad, it was ice cold, fresh and delicious. I got the Chilean sea bass for dinner, it was very good. I also had the apple bread pudding with vanilla gelato, it was great. Will definitely return to try the steak. Prices are very decent for the quality. My only complaint is that Caymus Cab Sav was $35 for a glass, that’s half the price of the entire bottle.

As a local mortgage lender, I’ve been to a lot of great restaurants, but Rails Steakhouse stands out as my absolute favorite. Everything I’ve ever tried here has been excellent — the honey bourbon ribeye is my go-to, the Caesar salad is phenomenal, and the blue cheese au gratin potatoes are incredible. The staff is always friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is top-notch. The speakeasy downstairs is such a cool addition and makes the whole experience even better. Highly recommend Rails for anyone looking for an unforgettable meal and vibe.
